The Savages are a group of intense U.K. ladies who are so over the information-overload era, hence the title (and accompanying manifesto) of their debut, Silence Yourself. Singer Jehnny Beth has a voice that somehow evokes both Siouxsie Sioux and Geddy Lee, and the songs are a series of musings on halting distraction and reconnecting to the universe — all executed with a controlled fury that’s frankly stunning. There’s also a notable moment of unabashed Patti Smith homage on “Husbands” — a breathless “Horses”-esque incantation — so their influences are clearly solid. But in general, any album that leads with a song called “Shut Up,” I can get behind.
