don't you tell me how i feel.

Say what you will about the Yeah Yeah Yeahs — they’ve crafted some pretty solid pop songs over the years (I was a giant fan of 2006’s Show Your Bones), so I was pleasantly surprised to hear about their forthcoming album, Mosquito.

We’ll have to wait until April to judge the music, but in the meantime, the conversation has turned to the album artwork, which has elicited quite the outcry. Sure, it’s ugly, but at least it supports the title. And lest we forget, the cover of their last album showed a fist crushing an egg.

Also, in fairness to the band, sharing something heinous is a canny way to return to the public consciousness before a record release — particularly when your last album came out four years ago. Personally, I can’t get enough of the aggressive headlines that have resulted, my favorite being The Guardian’s succinct “Yeah Yeah Yeahs fans say Mosquito album artwork sucks.”

Below, a teaser for Mosquito, with nary a pained neon cherub in sight.
