Today’s flashback, brought to you by the angsty gentlemen of Filter, is a dizzying explosion of overexposed and hypersaturated images, in typical ’90s style. I can only imagine it’s meant to resemble a nerd’s damaged psyche upon being pushed into a locker one too many times. Or maybe I’m just too hyperfocused on Richard Patrick’s excellent eyewear.
Regardless, I always loved the crushing quiet-loud dynamic in this song, although it took a while before I even understood what he was saying in the bridge (something ending in “nation” was my guess for some time). But then, I generally have a problem discerning lyrics.
According to Wikipedia, “Hey Man Nice Shot” caused some discord, as it was understood by many to be a suicide song — purportedly related to either Kurt Cobain or politician Budd Dwyer, who killed himself on television at a press conference. Grisly.
Another fun fact from our friends at the ‘pedia: “The band recently released a cover of ZZ Top’s hit single ‘Gimme All Your Lovin’ which appears on the compilation ZZ Top: A Tribute From Friends.”
Possibly worse than that “take a picture” song! Ooh.
