On second thought… by Steele

Ke$ha must have read my blog last week, in which I made the confident statement that her career is based largely on getting drunk, because this week she made sure I heard about the plaintive, mournful cover of Bob Dylan’s “Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right” she recorded for a tribute album.

Ke$ha, you got me – this was better than I had any reason to expect. She kind of nailed it, actually; by slowing it way down, she transformed the song’s flippant, cruel tone into one of emotional devastation. I’m not ready to say she’s some musical genius (As one astute YouTube commenter elegantly put it, “Let’s not start sucking Ke$ha’s dick just yet”), but hey, the fact that she even got involved in this project shows that there may be a little more to her than meets the beer.

For those who are offended by this entire post, here’s a live version of the original.

Wow. Good call. We do have to consider that she might just have awoken hungover, still she rescues this song from Bob’s usual jaunty snottiness. And “wasted my precious life,” nice.
