Given the season, I figured it was a no-brainer to resurrect this classic MJ jam (pun intended). Truly, the 1982 video for “Thriller” was an epic undertaking: turning a beloved pop star into a beast, developing shambling-yet-synchronized chororegraphy for a zombie troupe, and plotting out a whole date-turned-nightmare, movie-within-a-movie storyline that lasts a solid 4.5 minutes before we even get to the music (and about 14 minutes in its entirety) — all at a time when the music video was a relatively new form. Naturally, it won of a slew of awards, broke Guinness records, etc.

Fun fact: MJ was a Jehovah’s Witness at the time this video was made, and its supernatural nature didn’t jive with his JW ethos. Luckily, someone had the sense to insist he put his religious insanity aside and release the damn thing. After all, this is pop perfection; an unparalleled, Vincent-Price-narrated Halloween classic for eternity.
