It is rare that I find it necessary to comment on reality television, but I was recently introduced to The Bad Girls Club. My, my. If you’ve seen it, you understand.

If not, here’s the show in a nutshell: A group of naturally contentious ladies cohabitate in lavish environs (jacuzzis figure prominently), invariably leading to war. Sure, there are some vague plotlines, but it ultimately boils down to Fight Porn.¬†Insanely, this show lives on the Oxygen network, which, if I’m not mistaken, has some link to Oprah? Really?

Apparently, I’ve managed to miss The Bad Girls Club for FIVE years — they’ve taken the show from LA to Miami to New Orleans. And regardless of the location, I’m pretty sure the story remains the same: someone slights someone else (or appears to), a fight ensues, and random bodyguard dudes mysteriously appear out of nowhere to break up the mayhem. One of the girls gets carted off in a paddy wagon, while the other girls in the house cackle madly and toss her belongings off of the second story landing to shatter on the tile floor below. Then they all get naked in a hot tub. At least, that was the one I saw.

Like many similar shows, it’s a complete train wreck, you can’t look away, blabla. But I give them points for efficiency — The Bad Girls Club offers audiences only the choicest bits of reality tv. Why talk when you can fight? Who needs a pacifist in the cast? It’s like getting ONLY MARSHMALLOWS in your bowl of Lucky Charms. MMMM.

Anyway, we all know the point of reality tv is to make us feel good about ourselves for being marginally less trashy or hoarding fewer things. So BGC is truly a mood boost for even the most hideous of us. THANKS OXYGEN
