Noel Gallagher – always my favorite of the Oasis Gallaghers – is up to some tricks with his new band, High Flying Birds. It’s long been my opinion that Noel is the talented Gallagher brother, so I’m glad he’s keeping busy.

Oasis, the post-Beatles pop band founded by Noel and Liam Gallagher, hit its peak in 1995 with the still-pretty-awesome (What’s the Story) Morning Glory, and disbanded soon after because the brothers Gallagher couldn’t deal with each other. If I remember correctly, they kept getting in fistfights. Fair enough. They’re probably both jerks. There was some on-again-off-again for many years, then in 2009 Noel quit the band, saying this time for good.

Anyway, his new gig seems to be treating him well. “If I Had a Gun” is dreamy, romantic and epic in that trademark Gallagher style. It’s not exactly a “modern” sound – listening to it, you wouldn’t know that 15 years have passed since “Wonderwall.” But is that a bad thing? Not for geezers like me.
