It’s pretty amazing how much this Garbage video is actually a vehicle for Shirley Manson’s hot boots and Butch Vig’s manpolish and smeared eyeliner. What is this song about again?

Oh right. WE ARE COOL AND ANGSTY. WATCH US DESTROY OUR INSTRUMENTS AND SHOWER IN GLITTER, THE DISINFECTANT OF CHOICE FOR TAINTED ROCK STAR SOULS.

ok!

Final thought: The shots of the Halloweenie figures in the field are terrifying.

I just had a flashback of sitting in the nosebleed section of the Spectrum as a teenager, waiting for Garbage to shut up so the Smashing Pumpkins could start. This video was just bad at the time. Now it’s hilarious

Hey, now! I always really enjoyed the tongue-in-cheek attitude of this song. They’re not sincere in their angst, they’re making fun of people who are. You could say it’s a pretty good approximation of the overall message here at Don’t You Tell Me How I Feel.
That said, I agree with Bender. This video has aged hilariously. Also, SPECTRUM REPRESENT! Saw my first concert there.

Wait, wait, wait. I don’t know about that theory. If Garbage was tongue-in-cheek, making fun of angst, then were the Pumpkins also? If not, then Garbage was on tour with the Pumpkins while making fun of the Pumpkins and their fans and their angst, and Butch Vig was riding both sides of the fence. All this would have been way too much for my 16-year-old mind to take in.
