I know singer-songwriter James Mercer is having fun making cool music with Danger Mouse these days, but man did I love the Shins. It would be a most wonderful gift to me if Mercer were to start another band like that next year.

Until then: this isn’t a Christmas song, but it always makes me think of winter. It reminds me of living in a small, snow-covered New Hampshire town, and of the bittersweet restlessness of being a teenager. Like many great pop songs, it makes me feel like I’m yearning for something, maybe missing something I used to have, but I don’t know what.
