My December(ists) by Steele

There’s a lot to like about this new song by the prog-rock/folk/spinners-of-epic-tales-from-the-olden-days band the Decemberists. It sounds like Neil Young crossed with R.E.M., specifically “The One I Love,” which I suppose makes sense given that R.E.M.’s Peter Buck is there jamming along. It’s also got a nice wistful, wintery sound to it, like dry leaves blowing from the trees and falling to a cold, hard riverbank where there’s no snow yet, but the gray sky suggests it’s not far behind.
