Flashback Friday – Enter Sandman by v

Filed under: angsty boy alert, creepy in an awesome way, flashback friday, videoz

Our Friday Flashbacks have been heavily weighted toward hip hop, so today I’m mixing it up with Metallica, everyone’s favorite RIAA cronies. If you were a high school dude who wore tattered Pantera T-shirts over long-sleeved thermals in 1994, you’re totally saying, “Dude, the black album blows, it’s all about Master of Puppets,” blablabla. Whatever. I’m saying, let’s talk about the alarmingly wrinkled old dude in the bathtub in this video, and the fact that he actually does nothing creepy to speak of — he’s just chillin in the living room in his wifebeater. It’s not Grandpa’s fault he’s old, pajama boy.

A good friend of mine once said that when you cut your hair off, your awesomeness goes with it, and Metallica was always his favorite case in point. But for today, let’s forget the debacles of the shorn era and focus on a time when James Hetfield and co. were not ridiculed anti-Napsterites but heroes of disaffected 15-year-olds everywhere.

PLUS A SPECIAL TREAT: I’d like to point out the Spanish subtitles that YouTube user mathiasnitros has kindly provided for us.

Personally I think men tend to get hotter when they cut their hair off. In Hetfield’s case (the case of the metal singer who looks like the cowardly lion), the only way to go was up.

Agreed on the hotness factor. But Reload is unforgivable.

[…] It recently came to light that, despite V’s voluminous knowledge of early 90s music, she somehow never heard TLC’s first single. Hey, nobody’s perfect!* Me, I watched this every day on MTV’s afternoon countdown, where it was often sandwiched between other classic videos like “Smells Like Teen Spirit” and Metallica’s “The Unforgiven,” which, seriously, Metallica? That shit was depressing as hell. Thanks for making me afraid of an old man AGAIN. […]
